Sunrise in Udaipur - the city of lakes

We woke up to an amazing sunrise from our hotel outside of Udaipur.

When we arrived in the dark we didn't know that we would be able to see the Monsoon Palace from the terrace!

India is a land of many contrasts.
It is incredibly beautiful and there is great poverty as well.

Tomorrow we hope to go visit a village school!
Yes, they have school on Saturdays!

  1. Dear Dr. Anton,

We are very excited to hear about your trip to a village school! Today our class and Mrs. Barbacano's class watched a second video on education in India, this time about a school in a tribe. We recorded some observations and wonderings, and made some connections to the first video we saw as well!
    Observations included:
-The school was up in the hills
-Students enjoying going on nature walks and learning about their surrounding environment
-Students conduct door-to-door surveys about education
-Students learn how to buy and shop at a market
    -They might wear uniforms(?)
    -They like to climb trees
-"Saura" means being part of a tribe
-When waiting for lunch, students sing and use their lunch trays as musical instruments
-They enjoy food like dal, potatoes, and eggplant
    -They like to do math

    Wonderings we had included:
-Why do they count with sticks/with an abacus?
-How many people are in the school?
-Why do they need to learn how to shop?
-What other sports do they play?
-Why do they sing so much? What are the songs they sing?
-Do they learn how to read?
-Are there any animals at school?
-Why do they have a church?
-What is the name of their hill?
-Does the school have a principal?
