Fatehpur Sikri - A Fortified Ancient City

This city was built by Emperor Akbar, Shah Jahan's grandfather in 1571.  Akbar chose this place for his capital after consulting a holy man, a Sufi saint, Sheikh Salim Chishti who predicted that he would have a son.

The walled city was only used for a short time, until 1585, because of water shortages in the area.
Shorts are not allowed in Fatehpur Sikri. Visitors in shorts must wear a lungi, a kind of wrap or skirt.
This is a tomb of a favored elephant.  It has elephant tusks made of stone sticking out of it.

Emperor Akbar is known for his embracing of many religions. In this walled city is a mosque that is still in use today.

You must cover your head and be barefoot in the mosque.

The walled city had beautiful details as well.
